yarn along - crochet table mat..................

I have just been experimenting with Boodles yarn which is made from recycled textiles. My first project is from my new crochet book - I succumbed and purchased a copy of Cute & Easy Crochet with Flowers written by Nicki Trench. I love the book and have had fun making my first crochet place mat. It still needs the flower embellishments, and I need a rest - it was very hard on my weak arms. The yarn is easy to work with in a technical sort of way but for me very hard in a physical way as it takes quite a lot of strength to pull the yarn through the loops when you double crochet.

I'm off for a spot of feet up time now as I've got my first workshop tonight - wow that sounds a bit scary but I am very excited.

Joining in today with Ginny, Marianne, Chrissie and Tami

Talk soon x

  1. I love the pink colour Sue, good to know that it is good, but hard work to work with. I have seen some of this "yarn" but it didn't appeal as I wasn't sure how it would work up. Looking forward to seeing it with the added flowers - when your poor arms have recovered!! xx

  2. Good luck Sue! You're going to have a great night, I know it!!! And I have made the exact placemat in the exact colour - you're right, it takes a lot of strength to do that stitch, which is why I only have one placemat so far...at least we'd each have one so we could meet up for a little lunch! 5. Looking forward to seeing that pretty mat with flowers. I have looked at that yarn a couple of times for a bedside rug and then decided to go with doubling up chunky wool instead. I do like the look of it though.

  6. Placemats....!...You are a genius! I bought the Hoooked stuff a few weeks ago and after crocheting up a squinty Frisbee I lost interest as it was so hard and stiff. Originally I thought I'd crochet them up as a small bathmat but they are not inspiring me. However, I could do with some placemats from this stuff so thank you so much as I think this is definitely how this will end up.
