52 weeks of happy - 39,40,41/52

I am so out of step with this weekly post and since coming back from holiday I seem to have lost my blogging mojo. I couldn't wait to get back home but now I'm back I think I need a holiday  - I feel exhausted. I am trying to be good and have started to use pacing techniques which help my ME but it's very hard to do and life seems to take over.

I was reading an article recently about women in their mid fifties and how family responsibilities can weigh very heavily for this age group. My parents are at that time of life where they need support and from my blog you will already know I have six amazing grandchildren. My grandchildren bring me great joy but my daughters are always worrying that I do too much. So hopefully if I start to have regular rests built into my day I will have the energy I need to spend time with everyone.

Anyway back to my happy post, Jen has finished her year of sharing happy moments but I have still got away to go - my four happy moments are -

1. sleeping in my own bed - is that an age thing!

2. my new wool winder has arrived - can't wait to try it out

3. choosing warm cosy yarn from my stash to start my winter projects

4. cooking with Alex - more to come.................

talk to you all soon x

  1. I've been feeling 'out of step' too, so maybe it's the changing of the seasons as well (as I haven't been on a lovely holiday as you have). Very nice happy things! I like to sleep in my own bed too, and yours looks awfully cozy with the crocheted pillows. You do always seem to be making and creating so much with and for your grandchildren, that it makes MY head spin! Obviously, your family appreciates you very much if they're concerned you're doing too much. Enjoy the rest of your week. Wendy xo (ps love the shot of your grandson setting the oven)

  2. Dearest sue it's so hard for people with ME to pace ourselves as we are generally type A personalities contrary to what all the medical professionals believe. We always want to do so much and it's really hard to be kind to ourselves by giving ourselves the necessary rest we need in order to function. I know for me I still need a good few hours in bed every day but its hard. I hope your pacing efforts go well and bring a little improvement. I think somehow going on holiday made me loose my blogging mojo, hopefully you will gets yours back soon. Xoxo

    1. I agree it is really difficult to look after ourselves - I still feel a sense of giving in and failure when I have to take rest periods in the day. Thank you for your kind words and I hope you have a good week.

  7. Those skeins will be a breeze with the woolwinder. Just make sure you get the right end and don't let it all get knotted up or you will need another holiday! Top tip get your man to hold it over his hands that is what we do - really he loves it!!! NOT ...Jo x

  8. I find it hard to go on holiday and when I come back, I am exhausted at either end, and I'm not dealing with ME. I know what you mean about sleeping in your own bed though, it is so nice isn't it. There is no place like home! Hope that you get back to feeling like yourself again. xx

  9. I hope the pacing helps, when I have the energy to do it I always find it helpful, currently on a good day I can manage 1hour 20 mins of activity with the rest of the day in bed, but with my latest relapse it's been some time since I can mange that. I recently bought exactly the same wool winder, I've yet to try my out yet. Feel better soon and have a happy week.

  10. Dear Clare I do hope you start to come out of your relapse - it is so hard to keep picking yourself up when your energy levels are so low. It is amazing how you still create such lovely things when you are feeling so poorly. I love your embroidery it's beautiful and your crochet butterflies are lovely. Keep bright

  12. Sue - I can understand completely. I am 69, a caregiver for my husband, we have a grandson, 21, living with us, and life gets difficult sometimes. That' s the biggest reason I started my blog, to kind of talk to myself, and let myself realize I need to more for me, and realize how much I do for others. Now, I am enjoying my crocheting and knitting, I am cooking more, and more efficiently, and I carve out time for myself every day. I do get exhausted, and sometimes just take a day to do nothing much, and let things go a little. Hope you can find ways to do the same. Love your blog, and your work. Hugs. xxoo. JO
