I’m
still infatuated by grey and loving all the different shades and textures. I spent
a few relaxing hours playing on Pinterest over the weekend and found some
lovely grey images. I was so smitten with my finds that I’ve set up my own grey mood board. I
also found that I wasn’t the only one enamoured with grey you must pop over to just
pootling which is a fabulous blog I recently stumbled upon.
Continuing
with my grey theme I’ve finished my granny square cushion and it has worked out
just as I imagined.
The hard bit was deciding where to put it, so the cushion
was a bit like Goldilocks having a turn of sitting on every chair, but I think
I have found its final resting place. I decided on the dark grey chair with a smaller dark grey cushion as well.
I’ve
also made a big cushion for the top of the toy box, in grey of course. I had
found an amazing remnant in John Lewis’s sale. The fabric is upholstery weight,
over a metre in length and it only cost £10. I was quite excited to set my
sewing machine up as it hasn’t been out for ages and I’m always a bit anxious about
using it. I’m not a natural machinist and seem to spend half my time threading
the needle and winding spools. Things like stitch size and tension always faze
me and the thought of sewing such heavy duty fabric was daunting. When I bought
the fabric I asked the sales assistant if I needed special needles but she just
advised I used a new sharp needle. I changed my needle which was without drama
and my sewing machine behaved beautifully. I had enough fabric to make the toy
box cushion and also a smaller cushion and I still have a sizeable piece spare.
My room is really taking shape with all the finishing touches.
The
walls are quite bare and I would love to buy some new art work but for now I
have been rearranging what I’ve already got and have just added an inexpensive
print or two from IKEA.
I wish my photos were sharper but the light continues to be poor on this murky cold grey day, I'm so looking forward to bright spring days.
I'm so pleased I started to write my blog again after having my few months break, my first post was on the 1st January and I can't believe the number of visitors old and new I've had. I have been thrilled with all the lovely comments you've left me and my followers have also increased. It is so nice to be part of such a warm friendly blogging community, many of the blogs I read are doing special little give aways and I hadn't really planned anything but such a lot of you have fallen in love with my knitted hedgehogs I thought I would knit a new pair and give them away to one lucky visitor.
I'm not very technical so don't think I will use one of those special random thingy me bob calculators, I will use the old fashioned way of names in a hat and ask Mr R to do the draw on Saturday 8th February. If you want to enter you can have up to three chances, just leave me a comment, you will get an extra chance if you are a follower, and another if you like my face book page.
talk to you soon x
Oh Sue, lovely, lovely, lovely !! Its all coming together so nicely.
ReplyDeleteThank you as well for my little mention !
Kate x
Your little hedgehogs are so cure Sue and I would love a chance to win them as I think my litle granddaughter would enjoy them at Grandma's house! I follow your blog as well. Love your granny cushion and think it looks good on both chairs so you can change things around from time to time.
ReplyDeleteOoooh yes a giveaway that will chase away the dull days. A hedgehog for each of my girlies would be lovely - lets wait and see.... Thanks for always stopping by my blog. Jo x
ReplyDeleteI love your grey, you and Kate are having quite a grey fest between you aren't you!! Your new cushions look great and go so well with each other and your chairs and so on! I am glad that you are back blogging after your break too Sue, I missed you when you were away!! xx
ReplyDeleteI love your grey cushion Sue and your room looks so calm. Just Pootling is one of my favourites too. Have a good week.

Blog land is such a lovely place isn't it. Your room is coming together nicely, you could always add an accent colour for each season, yellow for spring, etc. I want to decorate our conservatory but I wanted to be able to change things each season so will probably keep it fairly neutral but would love an accent wall I ust not sure what! I'd love to enter your giveaway for your hedgehogs, I'm already a blog follower and will pop over and like your facebook page too xx
ReplyDeleteI just love grey, it's such a great neutral colour to decorate with. Your cushion is really nice. x
ReplyDeleteAbsolutely stunning, What wonderful crochet and the greys are so calm and lovely...Chrissie x
ReplyDeleteOh! Your cushion looks beautiful. I love grey, it's such a cosy colour - even though it's grey! Despite the many colours in my mood blanket, I love to crochet in just a single colour, especially when working with a motif - I sometimes thing the colours can get in the way of really being able to appreciate the pattern. Your giveaway sounds fab - the hedgehogs are gorgeous
ReplyDeleteI think grey is the new black, goes with anything but is softer. Grey is one of my favourites at the moment too. Your cushion looks beautiful, is it a cover you can remove or is the pad sewn/crocheted inside.
ReplyDeleteNice to see you back.

Those greys are so elegant and I like your incremental approach to decorating the room. It took me ages to begin putting up some wall art and I couldn't work out why. Eventually it dawned that sometimes things need time to settle and you need to see the space before you know what it is that is needed to accent or complement or highlight a wall space in terms of the cycle of light, use of the room and practicalities. Look forward to seeing the next stages.
ReplyDeleteRe the rain - vertical is bad but horizontal is definitely worse...!
Please count me in your giveaway x2, I've also added myself as a follower on the site as I normally come through bloglovin. I'd love to look after the little hedgies
Gorgeous! I'm usually a jewel tone person but I'm loving your color combo. Visiting thru DIY Dreamer party
ReplyDeleteGood job on both projects! The cushion has worked out really well.
ReplyDeleteI love grey although I'm not so keen on the grey weather! I'd love to enter the giveaway please.
ReplyDeleteThat grey and the green of the room are so perfect together. Your hedgehogs are absolutely adorable, also. What great fun.
ReplyDeleteDon't enter me in your lovely giveaway, though. Too far for shipping.
Granny squares are just fabulous. There are so many possibilities. I have been spinning a lot of grey yarn lately. Must be the season!
ReplyDeleteIt's funny how grey can have two different sets of connotations. One for the gorgeous grey things you're making with fabric and yarn, and one set for the outdoor grey and dreary weather. Here the weather is brigth and white :) And I would find some colourful flowers in a magazine somewher - and buy some second hand frames and paint those bluish grey - for a touch of colour to your room, but then I'm a colour freak.
ReplyDeleteI love the grey granny squares - and the grey crochet hearts too.
ReplyDeleteAbsolutely stunning and beautiful.

Wow the cushion looks stunning x
ReplyDeleteHi Sue, I love your grey crochet it is definitely an under rated colour but goes with so many other colours, loving your cushions! I would love to enter your giveaway too, your hogs are so cute :-) x
ReplyDeleteOoh I am clearly a little behind in blog reading lately so yes please add my name to the list. I absolutely everything and anything grey and I think there is a place for it in every house. I have just lost the battle with my hubby to paint out chimney breast grey' so instead it is going blue, trust me it was not due to lack of trying, this man drives a hard bargain!! I love your new grey room and you have done such a lovely job prettifying it with the latest crohet flowers with their sweet buttons. I do hope the crochet lessons went well and I am looking forward to hearing all about it. Enjoy your weekend xoxo off to like your FB page xoxo
