My crochet class went well last Saturday and my three friends seemed to
really enjoy themselves. I was so pleased that they all managed to
learn the basic stitches and even had the beginnings of a granny square
to take home. I used Saturday as a trial run as I am thinking about running crochet workshops from home. I set my crafty space up as
though it was a real workshop, with samples of crochet projects, books and magazines for browsing and inspiration. In advance I had hooked some crochet samples of the basic core stitches which was very useful. I
also had some printed information which was kindly given to me by
Chrissie.
Chrissie has been running crochet workshops for a while and was able
to give me lots of useful tips and advice and has kindly shared her
workshop lesson plans with me. I am always so amazed at the friendship
and support that is offered by the wonderful blogging community.
We also managed to consume quite a lot of coffee and cake amidst the chatter and of course crochet tuition.
I was so pleased with the crochet samplers that everyone managed to produce and the little granny squares..........
Inspired
by the success of Saturday I am just putting the finishing touches to a
flyer advertising three x 2hr workshops in March. Please keep your
fingers crossed that I have some people sign up for them, I think I will
advertise on face book as well - you can only try.
Talk soon x
Sue, this looks like a fabulous workshop set up - the colours and prettiness of everything is just perfectly conducive to learning . . . and the cake is just the cherry on the top! Well done with your first class, and good luck with your new venture - I'm sure in no time you will be in great demand :-)
ReplyDeleteHave fun putting it all together & happy weekend,
love Gilly xx
Thank you for your lovely comments and encouragement x
DeleteWell done Sue, and many Congratulations on your first Workshop, it sounds a brilliant success, and I am so thrilled for you. Your pictures look amazing as do your mouthwatering refreshments, just wish I lived nearer LoL.
ReplyDeleteYou will be an immediate success I have no doubt. Keep us informed.
Take care,
luv irenexxxx
Thank you Irene would be lovely if you lived nearer but you would be teaching the class - remember it was with your help that I first mastered attaching granny squares as you go x
DeleteIt all looks so lovely Sue, I can quite see why everyone enjoyed it so much, and I am sure that all of your friends must have appreciated all of the hard work that you put into this. What a lovely start to what I hope will be a great project for you. I have only one gripe - that I live too far away to come and join in!!! Stay safe today. xx
ReplyDeleteThank you Amy we will have to set up residential workshops around the country x
DeleteHow lovely! It all looks so organised and cosy with the lovely crochet and cakes - wish I lived nearer :)

Thank you - maybe I could entice you with some lovely vintage finds from my local charity shops x
DeleteTeaching is hard work and not just 'showing' how to do something. Your class looks well organised, professional and the kind of quality class I'd snap your hand off to attend. I wish you the absolute best and look forward to reading how it goes.
ReplyDeleteI have no experience of marketing a home business but I wonder are there any good wool shops locally that might advertise your classes and perhaps offer your students a discount on wool or supplies? This might increase business for both of you.
Thank you for your lovely comments and great marketing tips x
DeleteWow - that looks good. Crafting and cake - a winning combination in my book. Have a great weekend x
ReplyDeleteOne of my favourite combinations too x
DeleteI knew it would look perfect. You are such a talented lady and as for the cakes... Yummy al the way. Hooe all goes well with your new venture x
ReplyDeleteThank you Linda you are always so kind x
DeleteWould have been a great workshop for me, too. I recently borrowed a crochet book from a friend and am now trying to get into some granny squares. Will be a nice adventure.
ReplyDeleteThank you Brigitte - good luck with your granny squares x
DeleteLooks like you all had a wonderful time - and ate very well too! :-) So glad you're getting everything sorted to teach more workshops, it's so much fun, isn't it? And just keep a handful of flyers in your bag, so you can drop off a few here and there, wool shops, haberdasheries, the local library...you'll fill a class in no time! Chrissie x
ReplyDeleteThank you Chrissie and a big hug for all of your help and advice x
DeleteHI Sue
ReplyDeleteIt all sounds so much fun and a great way to spread the crochet word !
Good luck with your new sessions,
Kate x
Thank you I've got my fingers crossed x
DeleteLooks like you had a wonderful time, wishing you lots of luck with the workshop.
ReplyDeleteClare x
Thank you Clare and hope you are keeping well x
DeleteSounds like you had a great time Sue, good luck with your new workshops. Have a lovely weekend.
ReplyDeleteJane x
Thank you Jane and I love your flowery crochet squares
DeleteCongrats, and I am sure you will have many willing pupils flocking to learn to crochet with such a skilled teacher, and especially with those cake treats!
ReplyDeleteThat's the plan if I bribe the pupils with cake they will forget about the quality of the teaching x
DeleteGood luck Sue with your classes. There's nothing better than helping someone else to create something. Have you tried your local adult education? If they can fill a course they will run it. Great networking opportunity.
ReplyDeleteS xx
Hi Jessie that's a good idea but until I feel more confident I wouldn't want a class of more than 4 beginners so don't think my numbers would be high enough for adult education - but maybe in the future - thank you x
DeleteThis looks great Sue, well done! I'm planning my first cochet workshops but am struggling with how best to tackle them. I'm quite nervous about it too so seem to be finding lots of other (not so) important jobs to do instead of just getting on with it!
ReplyDeleteI have been the same it's taken me ages to take the plunge. My trial run with new friends really helped kick start the idea. I hope you decide to go for it as you are way ahead of me. I've never even thought about writing my own patterns and you have already published yours and had amazing feedback - your workshops would be great x
DeleteLovely way to spend a day. Time spent with creative people is always joyful.
ReplyDeleteThank you it was great fun x
DeleteOh that looks like such fun crafty day!! Especially with lots of cake ^_^ yummy!
ReplyDeleteThank you we did have fun - in fact too much laughing and not enough crochet. I will have to get tougher x
DeleteYou sound like a natural teacher, Sue, and I am sure your crochet classes will be popular. Those cakes look absolutely delicious!
ReplyDeleteHelen xox
Thank you Helen - if you ever decide to do sewing workshops I would love to come x
ReplyDeleteFabulous crochet and gorgeous cakes! I'm sure your crochet classes will be a resounding success. x
ReplyDeleteWhilst sewing and knitting have been ok, crochet baffles me. Your classes sound great and I'd definitely be interested if I lived near you. Plus cake too = win, win.
