I had a busy morning filled with household chores and then I went to visit my poorly mother in law. On my way home I nipped into John Lewis (very dangerous thing to do!) as I needed to buy some disposable piping bags. Somehow between purchasing my icing bags and getting back to the car I managed to buy forty 100gram balls of Rowan All Seasons Chunky. It's hard to deny any knowledge of this purchase as the yarn fills two rather large carrier bags, which don't easily fit behind the sofa or under the bed, so I am putting it down to the weather, my age, or maybe Aliens but I have to say I am thrilled with my bargain and I am thinking of a lovely warm winter blanket.
The photo doesn't really do the yarn justice, the shades are much nicer in the flesh - so lovely.................
talk soon x
Wow...that must a been a great feeling ... I love it, love it the color combination ! I think doing things like that keeps you alive and happy ... Very happy :)

Ha ha! This post had me giggling - I've had the occasional/frequent impulse buy, but one I could hide away for a while! 40 balls!!! You are so funny! I bet you felt happy as can be toodling out of the shop with big bags full of gorgeous yarn! Can't wait to see what you do with it all...but for now, squirrel it away in a big beanbag cover...Chrissie x
ReplyDeleteYou have bagged a bargain by the sounds of it. I love that yarn I knit a beautiful lace edged jumper with a raised flower motif on when Heidi was 3 in conker brown for Autumn, she wore it to death. Happy memories, thanks. Jo x
ReplyDeleteOoohhh! What pretty colors! You can never have enough yarn! :)
ReplyDeleteOh how absolutely wonderful Sue - what a treat for you - and I reckon you should blame the Aliens ….. it's the most gorgeous looking yarn and you're certain to turn out a wonderful blanket with it. I just began a new blanket too, with stash leftover from my huge Stylecraft order from way back when! Is there any purchase more exciting than a big bag of new yarn - in your case two? Have fun, xoJoy
ReplyDeleteYes you did buy that much yarn and I'm leaning towards the alien theory. :) It's lovely.
ReplyDeleteAnne xx
This kind of inexplicable thing happens to me every time I step into a store. So weird. The colours look pretty good from here, but if you say they're even better in person, I'll believe you. Enjoy the fun of getting a pattern together for the blanket! Wendy x
ReplyDeleteOh those dastardly aliens, at it again! ;-) The JL habby deot is just too hard to resist, isn't it?
ReplyDeleteLovely yarns and have fun making your blankie.

its really easy to go into JL and come out with a boot full of yarn or fabric but great colours for a new blanket project
ReplyDeletewow how much wool! what a haul. Im sure you going to make some lovely bits and wont be running out of supplies x
ReplyDeleteWOW!!!! You just put my last yarny binge in perspective!!!!
ReplyDeleteJ.E.A.L.O.U.S.!!!!!
ReplyDeleteSuch gorgeous Yarn! What ideas have you got for the blanket!? The colours are delicious! x
The colours look lovely in the photo, so must be absolutely gorgeous in front of you. I am so envious! I'm trying hard to convince myself that three crochet blankets are enough for the winter and I really do not need another one, but looking at your yarn, I'm losing the battle xx
ReplyDeleteCongrats on your bargain! The colours are beautiful :)
ReplyDeleteHow could you pass up all that beautiful yarn especially if it was on sale, you would be insane.
ReplyDeleteHugs,
Meredith
Hello Sue,
ReplyDeleteI just found your blog and this post and couldn't resist it! Yes, the aliens certainly took over and made you do it, hehe! ;)
What a great buy! I totally love Rowan. Their wool is amazing!
I got an idea for you: this summer I have been following all the installments of a Knit along by Martin Storey on the Rowan website, perhaps you could use it as a base for a blanket? Each week there were 2 new squares, with different stitches, all in .pdf format, free to download. There is lots of extra info and even some youtube videos, so you can see the result!
Here is the link: http://www.knitrowan.com/designs-and-patterns/online-collections/pure-wool-worsted-mystery-afghan-knit-long
Let me know what you think!
I find that the Rowan website is a treasure trove of wonderful patterns (obviously there are their magazines you can buy, but there are plenty of free ones, and the files are very clear, even written in several languages!)
Looking forward to seeing what you might make with it!
