when recipes go wrong........................

I've been using condensed milk in quite a few recipes recently so when I spotted a recipe for fudge I decided to have a go. When the children were small I often made fudge with them and it was a firm family favourite. The fudge seemed to work well, although my arms were nearly dropping off by the time I had finished as you had to beat it for about ten minutes which I found very difficult.

I marked it into squares and left it to set but alas when I looked at it a few hours later it was all soft and squidgey, more like toffee.

Rather than throw it away, Laura came up with a good idea and suggested I made millionaire slice with it.

I made a shortbread base.

then I warmed the fudge slightly in the microwave and spread it on top of the cooked shortbread base.

then I melted some chocolate.

I spread the chocolate on top of the fudge and shortbread layers and left it to set.

lastly it was cut into squares and I had to try very hard not to eat more than one yummy slice at a time................

talk soon x

  1. Good grief that's the best 'failed' recipe I have ever seen! ;-) Chrissie x

  2. Ooh, that looks soooo yummily deeelicious! Aren't you glad now that the fudge didn't set? ;-)
    Bon appetit!

  3. I know I could never be what you might call sophisticated because I can not stop eating millionaires shortbread and that looks scrummy x x. Though of you the other day. We were walking high in the mountains and saw some Spanish oaks with the sweetest little acorns x

  4. It looks simply delicious. I'm sure you were very grumpy that after all that effort it ended up being toffee, but I bet the end result tasted even better. Xo

  5. Ingenious! And what can't be rescued by putting chocolate on top? :)

  6. Fantastic idea, I wish I could reach into the computer and grab a piece.

  7. What a great idea for salvaging your fudge! I love millionaire shortbread, and really miss it since giving up wheat. Please eat a slice for me! :-)

  8. Well the end product looks perfect!
I would have had 2 or 3 squares as you must have a proper taste test :)

  9. Great save ... they look very moreish ... Bee xx

  10. Wow, that looks so good! I have the worlds worst sweet tooth, and NOW I NEED something sweet!!!
    xo Kris

  11. That looks was obviously fate!
    M x

  12. That was an excellent way to save all that time and effort Sue - and my goodness, sugar overload never looked so good! Joy x

  13. Good for you! It worked out beautifully in the end. I've had that happen with fudge before too, and I really don't know why it happens. I've used it as an ice cream topping instead. :)

  14. If that is how it turned out I think that you should make more things wrong in the future!!

  15. Is this "wrong"?? It looks pretty good to me! Yum. x

Thank you so much for taking the time to leave me a comment.
I read them all and always try to get back to you x
